Scuba Diving Equipment Fundamentals

Snorkels

When you have completed your Scuba Diving Snorkelling for the day, you should give your snorkel a very thorough rinsing. This will remove any particles from the ocean that may have lodged in the snorkel.

Scuba Fins
Your scuba Diving Fins should feel as comfortable on your feet as a pair of shoes. Never buy diving fins that are too large or too small. If the diving fins don’t fit properly, they can hamper you on a dive. Once your drysuit is dry, you should apply talc powder to the neck and wrist seals and apply either beeswax or a zipper lubricant to the zipper. Open and close your scuba suit zipper a few times after applying the lubricant. You should store your drysuit on a hanger.

Likewise, You should always rinse your scuba wetsuits in fresh water after a dive. You can add a mild soap or disinfectant to the water. This will cut down any odors that may be lingering on your wetsuit. Your wetsuit should be hung in an area away from direct sunlight to dry. You should make sure your wetsuit is dried thoroughly prior to storing it.  Keep in mind that wetsuits and drysuits are expensive pieces of scuba diving equipment. Proper care is crucial to maintaining their life.

Scuba Weights or Weight Belts
After a dive, you should rinse your scuba weight belts in fresh water. This will rid the scuba weight belt of any sand and salt crystals which may have attached to your weight belts.

Scuba Knives
You should rinse your diving knives after each dive. You can also add silicone grease to your scuba diving knife to keep it from rusting. When purchasing a diving knife, keep in mind that titanium will not rust. If you purchase scuba knives that are stainless steel they will rust. Proper care is crucial to keep your diving knife in top condition.

Underwater Torches
Rinse your diving torches after each dive. When you store scuba equipment lights, make sure they are in the OFF setting.

Scuba Watches
It is amazing how fast time flies when you are underwater. If you want to be able to measure your time underwater, as well as how deep you are diving, you should purchase a scuba diving watch.

Scuba Regulators
Now,  what is a scuba regulator? According to Wiki ” A scuba diving regulator is a pressure regulator  that reduces pressurized breathing gas to ambient pressure and delivers it to the diver. The gas may be air or one of a variety of specially blended breathing gases. The gas may be supplied from a cylinder worn by the diver or via a hose from a compressor or a bank of cylinders on the surface . A gas pressure regulator has one or more valves in series, which reduces pressure from the source in a controlled manner, lowering pressure at each stage.”

Scuba Gear
Scuba diving gear that beginners like to purchase after their first few dives include a snorkel, weight belt, knife, scuba gloves, torches, scuba diving watch,  scuba camera,scuba regulator, steel scuba tanks, scuba tank compressor, and a SMB or surface market-buoy. All of your scuba diving equipment should be stored in an area where scuba gear protected from fumes, heat and light. You should never store your scuba diving equipment in area where heavy things will be laid on top of them.

Try renting various brands and styles of scuba diving gear over five to ten dives.
